Odd Squash is a rock band from Ontario - Tom Whiteside (bass), Tyler Whiteside (drums), Paul Vaderwielen (lead guitar) and Laura Sones (guitar and vocals).
So, why Odd Squash? Well, the truth of it is, we went to a cottage to record some songs, there was a squash standing by the lake (yes, it was in fact standing), and there’s no doubt about it - it was odd. Much to Laura’s chagrin, it became apparent that no other name could come along that would better capture the essence of the project. The squash had stood by the band and their trusty engineer (Rob Wilson of Cats Cove Media) through an entire weekend of tracking, day and night, never breaking that steadfast nod of humble approval. Of course, Laura came around, and thus the band was named.
The very lake that the Odd Squash looked out upon was the inspiration behind Shark In The Lake (fear not kids, it’s just a metaphor). 55 is a tale of having one foot in the past and one in the present, with the entirety of Hwy 6 S between each foot. Canary In The Gold Mine is a tribute, a solemn piece of northern history.
In a nutshell, we four who have shared stages and music through bands past and present, came together to record some rock songs. And somehow at the centre of it all, stood an Odd Squash.
